Israel Waits for Hamas Response to Interim Hostage Release Agreement

The Israeli government is waiting for a response from Hamas regarding the comprehensive framework proposed by the US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff’s negotiating team. The agreement aims to secure an interim hostage release and a Gaza ceasefire.

Sources indicate that Hamas requested additional clarifications and modifications before providing its complete answer. However, with intensified pressure over the past 24 hours, American officials remain optimistic about reaching a deal. A US source suggests that direct negotiations are more effective than those mediated through Egypt and Qatar.

The proposed agreement includes the immediate release of eight living hostages and six deceased individuals upon implementation, as well as an additional two hostages during the ceasefire period. The 60-day ceasefire would allow parties to negotiate war termination terms, including the release of all remaining hostages.

Hamas has reportedly abandoned previous demands, including explicit commitments from Israel and America to end hostilities and extensive Israeli withdrawal. Arab sources confirm that the ongoing Iran conflict significantly impacts current discussions, warning Hamas that with Iranian hostilities concluded, there will be “unrestricted Israeli military operations against Hamas” without American or international constraints.

Israel views Hamas as operating with its back against the wall, lacking supporters aside from Qatar’s conditional support. The US negotiators’ message suggests that Hamas must choose immediate agreement to preserve organizational remnants or face complete elimination.

With diplomatic efforts ongoing, both sides are expected to engage in further negotiations, potentially traveling to Cairo or Doha to finalize remaining details.
