Israeli forces have launched a prolonged raid on Ramallah and el-Bireh in the occupied West Bank, leaving at least 58 Palestinians wounded. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that a 13-year-old child was hit by live fire in the abdomen, undergoing surgery. Witnesses described Israeli snipers positioning themselves on rooftops and soldiers storming the central vegetable market area.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said eight people were hit with live bullets, 14 with rubber-coated steel bullets, and five wounded by shrapnel. Thirty-one Palestinians suffered tear gas inhalation, including two pregnant women. A rescue team was prevented from reaching the wounded in besieged areas.
Palestinian authorities condemned the raid as a “dangerous escalation” and accused Israel of being fully responsible. Former communications director for the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Xavier Abu Eid, described the raid as part of daily life for Palestinians, noting that Israel’s goal is to remind residents who rules.
The ongoing Israeli army assault and settler violence in the West Bank has left Palestinians feeling defenseless. Faten Elwan, a Paris-based journalist, stated that the raid seemed like a show of force, sending a message that the Oslo Accords are dead.
Since October 2023, at least 671 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers across the region. The West Bank has seen a surge in violence since Israel launched its war on Gaza, with tens of thousands of Palestinians forced out of their homes.
