Israeli Bus Explosions Spark Security Alert After Hamas Release of Hostages

Three buses in Israel’s Bat Yam city exploded on Thursday night, sparking a security alert after Hamas released four Israeli hostages held in Gaza. No one was injured, but several bombs were discovered under other buses and explosive devices have been found at bus depots.

Israeli officials ordered all public transportation halted while vehicles are inspected for potential threats following the explosions. Firefighters put out the fires, but one unexploded device is being defused nearby.

The police and Shin Bet are investigating the incident, which appears to be a terrorist attack. Preliminary findings indicate that all devices were identical and set to detonate on Friday. The explosions come hours after Hamas released the hostages, which Israel believes may be part of a larger phase of ceasefire negotiations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an “intensive operation” against centers of terrorism in the West Bank, and Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the IDF to increase counterterrorism operations in the region.
