Israeli hacker group claims responsibility for Iran WiFi outages

The Israeli hacker group “We Red Evils Original” took responsibility for reported WiFi outages in Iran, according to Israeli media on Thursday night. Before the outages occurred, the group posted a message saying they would attack internet systems and providers in Iran. Many people in Iran reported that their internet was down or experiencing blackouts.

This group has been operating unofficially since the start of the Israel-Hamas war. They have claimed to hack into foreign countries’ systems before. In October 2023, they said they hacked into Iran’s main oil project management system. They also claimed to have blocked the Hadid family from their WhatsApp accounts in November.

Additionally, the group reportedly cut off internet access in Yemen early that month as retaliation for Houthi missile launches. Netblocks, an Internet Observatory, confirmed this at the time.
