Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu Undergoes Successful Prostate Surgery

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu successfully underwent surgery to have his prostate removed at Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical Center, hospital officials announced Sunday. The 75-year-old leader was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection due to benign prostate enlargement and has had several health issues in recent years.

Netanyahu’s office stated that the procedure was completed successfully, and he is expected to remain hospitalized for several days. Justice Minister Yariv Levin served as acting prime minister during the operation.

Netanyahu’s age and health have been under scrutiny in recent times, particularly given his grueling workload amidst multiple crises, including the ongoing war in Gaza. However, he has insisted on being in excellent health, despite recent medical scares such as a heart condition and dehydration.

The surgery comes at a time when Israel is dealing with major global events shifting the Middle East, including the 15-month-long war against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip. The conflict has resulted in over 45,400 Palestinian deaths and 108,000 injuries, according to the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry in Gaza.
