Israel’s Blockade on Gaza Reaches Humanitarian Crisis Point

More than 100 charity and human rights groups have warned that Israel’s blockade on Gaza is pushing Palestinians toward starvation, as the ongoing military offensive has resulted in over 59,000 Palestinian deaths since October 2023. The European Union’s deal with Israel to increase aid to Gaza has fallen short, with only 132 aid trucks and 80-120,000 liters of fuel entering the territory in the past week.

The United Nations is also sounding the alarm, warning that UNRWA will soon run out of money due to insufficient funds. The agency provides critical health and education services to around 2.5 million Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and east Jerusalem.

Humanitarian groups have condemned Israel’s actions as “propaganda,” claiming that it has allowed only a fraction of the aid it claims to have delivered. The World Health Organization warns that malnutrition is spreading rapidly, with over 30,000 children under five affected this year.

The Israeli military has acknowledged that its strikes have caused civilian casualties, including women and children. However, it continues to blame Hamas for any harm caused to civilians.

As the situation in Gaza deteriorates, human rights groups are calling for a ceasefire and increased aid. The international community is divided on how to respond to Israel’s actions, but one thing is clear: the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is deepening by the day.

In other news, a top adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US special envoy Steve Witkoff in Rome to discuss ceasefire talks. However, the meeting did little to ease tensions between the two sides.
