Israel’s Forever War on Iran Shows No Signs of Abating

Israel’s war with Iran appears to be over, but not for long. The ceasefire agreement brokered by the US has been widely condemned, and tensions between the two nations are once again simmering just below the surface.

Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, is reported to be weighing a snap election in an attempt to shift attention away from his failed policy of containment. However, few believe that Netanyahu will relinquish control over Iranian airspace without sparking further conflict.

Netanyahu’s military strategy has been described as a “grinder” by opponents, with no end in sight to the violence. He sees continuing war as an opportunity to boost domestic support and outflank his opponents.

Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has emerged from hiding to wage a new war on his own people, arresting hundreds of civilians and executing alleged spies. Tehran is now reportedly secretly racing to build or acquire a nuclear weapon in response to the international community’s attempts to contain it.

The US, under President Donald Trump, has been accused of exacerbating the situation with its impulsive and uninformed interventions. The UN charter was breached during the Iranian attack, and the country is facing increased scrutiny from the international community.

Experts warn that war across the Middle East is barely on hold, and that only democrats can challenge the status quo. As one commentator noted, “peace is his enemy,” and it seems that Netanyahu’s relentless pursuit of power has little regard for the cost in human lives.

Despite the devastation wrought by this conflict, there is a growing sense that nothing has changed. The cycle of violence continues, with no end in sight to the endless wars in the Middle East.
