Israel’s Gaza Ceasefire: Hostages to Return, Hamas Leaders Demanded Deportation

Israel is preparing for the return of four hostage bodies from Gaza on Thursday, with officials demanding the deportation of thousands of Hamas leaders as part of a ceasefire agreement. Prime Minister Netanyahu said that the Palestinian Authority will not control Gaza.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has established a new directorate to help Gazans leave the Gaza Strip voluntarily. The plan aims to enable Palestinians to depart for a third country via sea, air, or land. In Lebanon, the IDF eliminated Hamas’s operations chief Mohammed Shaheen and destroyed a Hezbollah tunnel on Mount Dov.

A deal is underway to release more hostages, including those who were murdered. Israel will demand that all hostages are released, Hamas in Gaza completely disarm and dissolve, and all Hamas leadership leave Gaza. However, it’s unlikely that Hamas will agree to this.

The IDF has also secured five strategic positions along the Lebanese border, with advanced security measures in place. If the ceasefire agreement holds, Israeli residents displaced from their homes since October 7th will finally return home on March 2nd.

Lebanon appears to be taking steps to address Israel’s concerns, including banning flights from Iran until further notice. The issue of Egyptian build-up in the Sinai has also come under scrutiny, with Israel’s new ambassador to the US warning that it’s a “serious violation” of their peace agreement.
