Israel’s Gaza Siege Claims 35 Palestinian Lives

Israel’s ongoing siege of the Gaza Strip has claimed the lives of at least 35 Palestinians in the past 24 hours, with residents describing an “earthquake” after a building was struck by Israeli forces. The US has defended Israel during the third day of hearings at the ICJ on the country’s obligations as an occupying power.

In addition to the Gaza Strip, Israeli settlers have carried out attacks across the occupied West Bank, including in the town of Beita, south of Nablus. The Israeli army has also been involved in raids and operations in the region.

The conflict has sparked international condemnation, with Yemen’s Houthis vowing to continue their attacks on Israel until the war ends. Meanwhile, a US aircraft carrier was targeted by the Houthis, but no damage was reported.

In a recent award-winning photograph, Palestinian photographer Samar Abu Elouf captured the devastating effects of Israel’s actions in Gaza, where over 52,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023. The photo shows a young boy, aged nine, with his arms blown off by an Israeli strike.

The UN’s special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory has condemned Israel’s “starvation policy,” saying it is intentional and causing destruction. World leaders are being urged to return to explain why sanctions on Israel and a protective presence in the occupied territory are necessary.

In other developments, one Israeli soldier was injured by an explosive device in Beita, while Palestinians have been living under the threat of violence and annexation in Masafer Yatta. A survivor from Yemen’s migrant detention centre has described a deadly US strike that killed multiple people, including women and children.
