The occupied West Bank city of Jenin has been almost completely destroyed by an Israeli siege and assault that began nearly two months ago, according to Mamdouh Assaf, municipality director of Jenin. The 56-day occupation has resulted in the evacuation of 3,200 homes, with over 85% of its streets being destroyed.
Life in Jenin is severely disrupted, with around 8,000 commercial establishments closed and entire neighborhoods displaced. Israeli forces have launched a systematic campaign of destruction and displacement, destroying hundreds of homes and buildings using explosives and bulldozers. Several areas have been taken over by the military and transformed into posts.
The operation has also led to the displacement of over 43,000 people in both Jenin and Tulkarem, with at least 47 killed and dozens injured. Israeli tanks entered Jenin Refugee Camp for the first time since 2002 in late February. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the army plans to remain deployed in refugee camps until next year.
The Palestinian Authority security services continue to crack down on resistance in both cities in coordination with the Israeli military, further exacerbating the crisis.
