Israel’s Strikes Kill 94 Palestinians in Gaza Amid Aid Protests

Israeli airstrikes and shootings have killed 94 Palestinians in Gaza, including 45 people waiting for aid, according to authorities. The strikes targeted crowded areas where Palestinians were attempting to receive humanitarian assistance.

A separate strike on a school in Gaza City sheltering displaced people also killed 15 people. Witnesses reported Israeli troops regularly unleashing barrages on crowds of Palestinians trying to reach aid sites.

Amnesty International said Israel was using starvation as a weapon, accusing the country’s “aid” scheme as “deadly, dehumanizing and ineffective.” The Israeli military denies these allegations, saying it fires warning shots to control crowds or at Palestinians who approach its troops.

The conflict has resulted in over 57,000 Palestinian deaths since the war began on October 7, 2023. Israel and Hamas are inching closer to a possible ceasefire that would end the 21-month war. A truce agreed upon by former US President Donald Trump’s administration includes terms for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza.

The death toll continues to rise as the humanitarian situation in Gaza worsens. The Israeli military blames Hamas militants for civilian casualties, while accusing them of operating from populated areas. The fighting has left the coastal Palestinian territory in ruins, with over 90% of its population displaced.

More than 500 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds wounded since food distribution sites opened in May. Israel claims it is facilitating aid deliveries, but aid workers say a fraction of trucks enter Gaza daily, leaving many without assistance.
