Israel’s West Bank Raids Force 40,000 Palestinian Displacements

A massive Israeli operation on occupied Palestinian territories has left nearly 40,000 people homeless since January. The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) warned that the situation is “escalating at an alarming rate” due to repeated and destructive operations by Israeli forces.

The operation, which began on January 21 in Jenin, has expanded to other areas of the occupied West Bank. UNRWA described the four main refugee camps involved as being “nearly emptied of their residents.” The agencies reported that more than 60% of displacement since 2024 was caused by Israeli operations without judicial orders.

According to crisis monitoring group ACLED, nearly 70 people have been killed in the conflict, with at least 44 deaths linked to the Israeli operation. Israel has carried out 38 air raids targeting the West Bank so far this year.

UNRWA has lost contact with Israeli authorities since January 30 due to a ban that took effect, making it difficult for the agency to raise concerns about civilian suffering in the territory. The agency warned that this decision puts the lives of Palestinian refugees and its staff at grave risk.
