A cable car accident near Naples in southern Italy has left four people dead and one seriously injured. The incident occurred at Monte Faito, a peak approximately 45 kilometres southeast of the city.
According to reports, one of the cables supporting the cabin snapped, causing it to crash. Rescue operations were hindered by fog and high winds. Seventeen passengers were evacuated from the stranded cabin using harnesses, with some footage showing them being rescued in mid-air near the mountain’s foot.
Regional authorities attributed the accident to a combination of weather conditions. The tragedy is reminiscent of a similar incident in 2021, when 14 people died in Italy after a cable car plunged to the ground.
