A team of over 150 volunteers led by Italy’s Alpine and cave rescue corps successfully rescued caver Ottavia Piana from a deep cave in northern Italy, marking her second rescue in 17 months. Piana, 32, was exploring the Abisso Bueno Fonteno cave system when a rock gave way beneath her feet, leaving her with injuries to her vertebrae, ribs, face, and knee. The rescue operation, which took 75 hours to complete, involved navigating narrow tunnels and using small explosive charges to clear obstacles. Piana was airlifted to the hospital at 03:00 on Wednesday morning, where she is receiving treatment for her injuries.
