Italy Warns EU of Broader Russia Threat

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has stated that Russia poses a significant threat to European security beyond the war in Ukraine. She warned that Russia could use illegal immigration and other issues to undermine the EU’s stability.

Meloni, who attended a meeting with leaders from Finland, Sweden, and Greece, as well as the EU’s chief diplomat Kaja Kallas, emphasized that the threat is more extensive than people may think. The Russian army will remain strong regardless of the outcome of the war in Ukraine, according to General Christopher Cavoli.

The Italian leader stressed that the EU must be prepared for this broader security challenge and take action to protect its borders from Russia and other “criminal organizations” that seek to exploit migrants. Meloni believes that sharing the burden of migration without addressing the root causes has been a mistake, and the EU needs to develop a new approach.

The EU’s security is not limited to NATO, but also encompasses critical infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and raw materials. Meloni emphasized the need for a more effective foreign policy and cooperation with other countries to address these issues. The threat from Russia is far-reaching, and the EU must be vigilant in defending its interests.
