Ivy League Football To Join NCAA FCS Playoffs

The Ivy League has approved a proposal to participate in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs, starting from next season. The decision was made after a year-long process initiated by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

According to Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris, the league aims to enhance the student-athlete experience and continue its tradition of competitive success in college football. The SAAC, comprising 17 student-athletes from all eight institutions, had proposed the idea.

“Ivy League prides itself on a storied tradition of impact, influence and competitive success,” Harris said. “We now look ahead to a new chapter of success.”

The proposal was led by Mason Shipp, a senior football student-athlete at Yale who serves as the Ivy League SAAC chair. He expressed gratitude to the Presidents for listening to the students’ voices.

Other student-athletes, including Leah Carey from Brown, also welcomed the decision, calling it a “milestone moment” in their careers. The league has a history of competitive success, with non-conference winning percentages above .500 in 12 of the past 14 seasons.

The Ivy League will now develop tiebreakers to determine how its automatic qualifier will be awarded when there are co-champions in the future. This marks an exciting new chapter for Ivy League football, as they aim to succeed at the highest level and further enhance the student-athlete experience.
