Izzo Sets Big Ten Wins Record in Thrilling Michigan State Victory

Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo has set a new record for most conference wins, breaking a tie with Indiana’s Bob Knight. The Spartans rallied from a 16-point deficit to beat Illinois 79-65 and secured the win at State Farm Arena.

Jaxon Kohler scored a career-high 23 points, including a crucial three-pointer with the shot clock expiring, as Michigan State controlled the boards late in the game. The Spartans’ comeback was fueled by an overturned goaltending call that gave them possession of the ball during a media timeout.

Izzo’s record-breaking win marked his 354th conference victory over his 30-year tenure at Michigan State. The Spartans will face No. 7 Purdue on Tuesday, with the game streamed on Peacock.

The team outrebounded Illinois 11-3 over the final four minutes of the game, including a crucial offensive board that set up Kohler’s three-pointer. Tre Holloman added 14 points, Jase Richardson had 11, and Coen Carr contributed 10 points to the Spartans’ win.
