For Saturday Night Live (SNL), engaging the in-studio audience is rare. The long-running show’s format doesn’t lend itself to spontaneity. However, host Jack Black and musical guest Morgan Wallen brought a fresh energy to last night’s episode.
Last week, Wallen made headlines when he abruptly left the stage without saying goodbye to the cast. His Instagram post with the caption “Get me to God’s country” sparked controversy. In response, James Austin Johnson, SNL’s Donald Trump impressionist, created a humorous monologue about tariffs targeting even unlikely places like the McDonald Islands.
Johnson’s riff included anthropomorphic Chicken McNuggets and a burger in a hula skirt. The joke poked fun at President Trump’s love for McDonald’s. By referencing Wallen’s Instagram post, Johnson effectively turned the tables on his predecessor’s “Get me to God’s country” comment. This unexpected twist added a new layer of humor to the show.
