Jack Black Fears Hosting SNL After 20 Years

Actor and musician Jack Black is set to host Saturday Night Live for the first time in 20 years, but admits he’s experiencing “night terrors” ahead of his return. The 55-year-old returns to the iconic US sketch show on April 5, with music provided by Elton John and Brandi Carlile.

Black joked about joining the SNL team again at the London premiere of A Minecraft Movie, saying it feels “cray cray.” However, he revealed that his experience is giving him “lots of nightmares” and nostalgic feelings. When asked about the show’s writer’s room, Black said they’re likely to be in a “dead coma” from last night’s show, with ideas possibly forming during the week leading up to broadcast.

This will mark Jack Black’s fourth time hosting SNL. His last stint came in December 2005 when he promoted Peter Jackson’s King Kong movie. Ahead of his latest release, Black admitted that one film he starred in makes him regretful. He expressed remorse over Shallow Hal (2001), which received positive reviews but has been criticized for its portrayal of plus-size women.

Black worked with the Farrelly brothers on the film and initially thought it would be funny, but now believes it was a “sell-out” experience. The movie’s lead actress, Gwyneth Paltrow, shared similar feelings about wearing the prosthetic fat suit for her role. She described feeling humiliated and overlooked by others during filming.
