Jack Black Returns to SNL After 20 Years

Jack Black, 55, is gearing up for his return to the Saturday Night Live stage as host and promoter of A Minecraft Movie, which hits theaters on April 4. When asked about his preparation process by Variety, Black joked that he’s experiencing “lots of nightmares and night terrors” but also fond memories flooding back.

Black is set to host NBC’s variety show for the first time in nearly two decades on April 5, alongside musical guests Elton John and Brandi Carlile. The show’s cast and writers are said to be in a creative coma, with Black speculating that some ideas may have been thrown together hastily.

Despite his lack of certainty about future sketches, Black expressed enthusiasm for the current SNL cast, including Colin Jost, Chloe Fineman, and Marcello Hernandez. “I love all those kids,” he said, calling them by age, as he was on the show before many of them were born.

This marks Black’s first hosting gig since December 2005, when promoting King Kong. The new movie sees Black’s character Steve team up with Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Hansen in a video game world.

When discussing A Minecraft Movie, Black emphasized the importance of love and creativity in a chaotic world. He praised his collaborator Jared Hess, describing him as a “force of creativity” with a unique perspective. The film’s cast, including Jennifer Coolidge, was also deemed “amazing,” with Black noting that each actor brought something special to their roles.
