The Detroit Tigers have re-signed right-hander Jack Flaherty to a two-year, $35 million contract, according to sources. The deal includes an opt-out after this year, in which the team will pay Flaherty $25 million.
Flaherty, 29, had a resurgent season last year with the Tigers and Dodgers, posting a 2.95 ERA and nearly a 7-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The deal marks a significant increase in pay for the veteran pitcher, who had previously signed a one-year, $14 million contract with the Tigers last winter.
The move adds Flaherty to a rotation that already features American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal and other top starting pitchers. The contract guarantees Flaherty $10 million more than the deal signed by Jordan Montgomery last year and is among the highest salaries for starting pitchers in 2025.
Flaherty’s impressive playoff performance with the Dodgers, including a World Series win, contributed to his increased earnings. His regular-season numbers this year have been among the best of any pitcher in baseball, earning him a rare dual accomplishment: playoff shares from two teams.
