The Detroit Tigers have signed right-hander Jack Flaherty to a two-year, $35 million contract with an opt-out clause after the 2025 season. The deal is pending a physical exam and includes a salary of $25 million in 2025.
Flaherty’s 2026 salary will be $10 million if he opts in, but can increase to $20 million if he makes 15 starts. This contract brings the total value to up to $45 million over two seasons.
Tigers manager has stated that Flaherty is the clear-cut No. 2 starter. Pitcher Tarik Skubal expressed his support for the re-signing, saying “I want him on the mound” and praising Flaherty’s talent and work ethic.
Flaherty, 29, had a strong 2024 season with a 3.17 ERA and made significant adjustments to his pitch mix under the guidance of pitching coach Chris Fetter and assistant pitching coach Robin Lund. The Tigers traded Flaherty to the Dodgers in July 2024 but ultimately re-signed him.
Tigers president Scott Harris said “We love Jack” and praised Flaherty’s work ethic and adjustability. Flaherty expressed interest in returning to the Tigers, saying he loved his time there and enjoyed working with Skubal.
