Jack Quaid’s ‘Novocaine’ Set for Box Office Hit

Actor Jack Quaid stars in the new action comedy “Novocaine,” which is set to make a significant impact at the box office this weekend. The film, directed by Steven Soderbergh and produced by Paramount, has already generated $1.75 million in previews, on track to rake in $8-10 million during its opening.

Quaid plays Nathan Caine, an ordinary businessman who suffers from a rare disorder that renders him pain-free. When his girlfriend is kidnapped during a bank robbery, he must use his extraordinary ability to rescue her and become a “superhero” of sorts.

Compared to other films released this weekend, such as Warner Bros.’ sci-fi movie “Mickey 17,” which costs $118 million to produce and needs significant box office earnings to break even, Quaid’s film is a relatively low-budget production with an estimated $18 million cost. The result? A promising opening that could propel it above the competition.

Additional films opening this weekend include Focus Features’ spy thriller “Black Bag” starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, and A24’s satirical comedy “Opus,” both of which aim to make a lower-key impact at the box office.
