Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba has been indicted on bribery charges, along with Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens and City Council President Aaron Banks. The indictment alleges a conspiracy to enrich themselves through bribery schemes.
Lumumba denies any involvement in the alleged scheme, stating he never accepted a bribe or conspired with anyone to commit a crime. He claims this is a “political prosecution” aimed at destroying his reputation.
The indictment follows similar cases involving former City Councilwoman Angelique Lee and businessman Sherik Marve Smith, who both pleaded guilty to bribery charges in connection with the same case.
