Jadeveon Clowney’s Future with Panthers Uncertain Amid Draft Additions

The future of Pro Bowl linebacker Jadeveon Clowney with the Carolina Panthers is uncertain, following reports of talks about trading the top pick from the 2014 NFL draft. Despite adding two new edge rushers, Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen, in the second round of the current draft, general manager Dan Morgan remains noncommittal on Clowney’s role.

Clowney is entering his final year with a $20 million contract and will count $13.775 million against the salary cap this season after recording 5.5 sacks last year. The Panthers currently have six edge rushers, with Clowney and D.J. Wonnum as starters, but Morgan emphasized that the team’s focus remains on the draft.

“We’re still working through the roster,” Morgan said, “We’re talking through things, and we’re focused on what’s in front of us.” With the addition of new players, the Panthers will reassess their roster after the draft and make future decisions accordingly.
