Jagex has entered the survival crafting game genre with RuneScape: Dragonwilds, an open-world adventure set in the popular MMORPG universe. The new game is a departure from Jagex’s traditional massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), offering a unique blend of survival mechanics and magical abilities.
Players will embark on a solo or cooperative journey to Ashenfall, a forgotten continent on the planet Gielinor, where they’ll use magic and skills to craft tools and equipment for survival. The game’s progression system will feature new skills, crafting recipes, and abilities to aid in survival.
Anima, also known as the living energy of the universe, plays a crucial role in Dragonwilds. It can be used to summon axes, repair armor, and perform other useful tasks. However, Ashenfall is home to legendary monsters, including dragons, which pose a significant threat to players.
To help overcome these challenges, popular RuneScape characters will make appearances in the game. Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy emphasized the importance of community feedback, stating that it has been at the heart of the game’s development since its inception. Closed alpha tests have already taken place, and the company plans to continue listening to player feedback throughout Early Access.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is set to launch in Spring 2025 as an Early Access title on Steam, with a Twitch livestream scheduled for April 15th to provide further information and gameplay details.
