Jaguars Training Camp Day 9 Observations

The Jacksonville Jaguars concluded their ninth day of training camp with a practice at the Miller Electric Center. Here are five bold observations from the session.

Travis Hunter continued to shine, showcasing his speed and ball skills in one-on-one drills against veteran cornerback Jourdan Lewis. The rookie receiver’s impressive performance has made him nearly impossible to cover in these situations.

The defense frustrated Brian Thomas Jr., a star wide receiver who struggled with resistance from the team’s secondary. Starting cornerback Tyson Campbell outperformed Thomas, which was highlighted by Campbell stating that their matchup was an example of “iron sharpening iron.” Thomas is considered an elite talent but has been pushed to his limits in practice.

Rookie linebacker Jack Kiser made a pick-six of quarterback Nick Mullens, demonstrating his abilities against the run and in coverage. Kiser’s performance over the last week has shown potential for an expanded role in the coming years, despite not being in line for a starting spot.

Veteran offensive lineman Chuma Edoga stepped into Patrick Mekari’s key role along the guard position, solidifying his place in camp. Edoga showed steady play throughout the practice and was able to completely stonewall the team’s interior rush.

Travis Hunter made the play of the day with a spectacular touchdown catch against Jourdan Lewis, beating him off the snap and contorting his body to secure the ball in the end zone. Other notable performances included Joshua Cephus making plays and Antonio Johnson forcing a fumble on Travis Hunter Long.
