The Jacksonville Jaguars reduced their roster to 53 players on Tuesday, ahead of the start of the NFL season. The team waived 28 players and released five others, with one player being placed on reserve/injured and another on injured reserve. Sixteen players will be eligible for the practice squad.
Quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Nick Mullens are the projected starters, with rookie Seth Henigan expected to serve as a practice-squad quarterback. The team has a deep running back corps, featuring Travis Etienne Jr., Tank Bigsby, Bhaysul Tuten, and LeQuint Allen Jr.
The wide receiver position is also stacked, with Brian Thomas Jr., Dyami Brown, and Travis Hunter forming the projected starters. Parker Washington and Austin Trammell will be among those on the roster, while Chandler Brayboy was waived this week.
Tight ends Brenton Strange and Johnny Mundt are set to start, with Hunter Long providing receiving skills. The Jaguars signed Long as an unrestricted free agent.
The offensive line has nine players, including Walker Little, Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey, Patrick Mekari, and Anton Harrison. Chuma Edoga and Jonah Monheim will be among the backups.
Defensive ends Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker lead the way, with Dawuane Smoot and Emmanuel Ogbah providing experienced depth. The team signed both free agents to add to their depth at this position.
Defensive tackles DaVon Hamilton and Arik Armstead are projected starters, while Maason Smith could play a key role if he overcomes an injury.
The linebacker corps is set with Foye Oluokun, Ventrell Miller, or Devin Lloyd as the starter, alongside Dennis Gardeck. The team waived Branson Combs this week.
Cornerbacks Tyson Campbell, Jourdan Lewis, Christian Braswell, Jarrian Jones, and Montaric Brown will be among those on the roster. Travis Hunter is expected to play a critical role in the secondary.
Safeties Andrew Wingard and Eric Murray are projected starters, with Darnell Savage providing depth. The team placed rookie Caleb Ransaw on season-ending injured reserve this week.
Specialists Cam Little, Logan Cooke, and Ross Matiscik make up the special teams unit, which includes two Pro Bowl performers from last year.
