New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson has been compared to basketball legend Michael Jordan and baseball icon Mariano Rivera after his game-winning shot in Game 6 of their first-round playoff series against the Detroit Pistons. The comparisons came on ESPN’s Get Up, with Mike Greenberg drawing parallels between Brunson’s performance and Jordan’s iconic buzzer-beater in the 1998 NBA Finals.
Greenberg noted that while it’s not a championship game, Brunson’s shot was still an important moment for the Knicks. Jay Williams added that Brunson’s three-pointer was tactically more difficult than Jordan’s famous shot, but both were clutch plays.
ESPN analyst Alan Hahn also drew comparisons between Brunson and Rivera, saying he has become “what New York remembers Mariano Rivera” as a closer in critical situations. With the Knicks advancing to the second round for the third straight season, fans are excited to see where this new talent will take them in the playoffs.
