New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson suffered an apparent ankle injury in Thursday’s overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. With 1:20 remaining, Brunson drove to the basket and stepped on the foot of Austin Reaves, who was called for a foul. A Lakers challenge upheld the foul, and further review showed Brunson significantly rolled his ankle on the play.
Brunson was in clear pain but stayed in to shoot his free throws before limping off the court to the locker room. Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau did not have an update on Brunson’s condition after the game, only stating that he was being evaluated.
Brunson had a standout performance before exiting the game, scoring 39 points on 13-of-26 shooting and adding 10 assists and four rebounds. The Knicks’ reliance on him to create offense has put them in a difficult position, with only 20 games left until the start of the postseason and no clear plan for handling his potential absence.
