Jamey Ice Restores Fairmount Home with Rich History

Jamey Ice, a lifelong resident of Fairmount, had always been fascinated by the history of old homes. As a real estate businessman, podcaster, and marketing executive, he knew that restoring an old home was more than just a renovation project – it was about uncovering its past.

In 2012, Ice purchased a near-century-old two-story home on Sixth Avenue in the Fairmount National Historic District for $1 more than the asking price. The house, built in 1919, had potential, but also came with its share of old-house headaches, including cheap vinyl flooring and leaks throughout.

As Ice and his wife, Melissa, worked to restore the home, they discovered some of its original features, such as longleaf pine floors, which Ice described as “beautiful” and “a dream.” However, the process was not without its challenges, including creaking doors that shifted with the seasons.

Despite the difficulties, Ice loved the creak of old wood and the soul of the house. He is a big fan of staying local and loves the community spirit of Fairmount, which he attributes to the front porches that bring neighbors together.

Recently, Ice met Rabbi Anne Brener, who claimed to have lived in the house 70 years ago. The meeting was a remarkable encounter, where Brener shared stories about her grandfather’s life and his role in building the house. For Ice, it was a chance to be reminded why he loves real estate and old homes – it’s not just about buildings, but about people and their stories.

Through his restoration project, Ice has uncovered a piece of Fairmount’s history and restored a home that now holds a special significance for him and his community.
