Amazon has welcomed back founder Jamie Siminoff as a vice president of product overseeing its home security camera arm and related businesses, including Ring. Siminoff, who left the company in 2023 after five years, will lead a team working on various products such as Ring, Amazon Key, Amazon Sidewalk, and Blink.
Siminoff founded Ring in his Southern California garage in 2012 and gained fame for turning down investment offers on Shark Tank. Under Amazon’s leadership, Ring has expanded its product lineup beyond smart doorbells to include a wide range of home cameras, exterior smart lighting, and security systems.
The company is seeing the market shift due to new technologies such as AI and drones, which Siminoff calls a “once-in-a-generation opportunity.” However, Ring has faced controversies, including concerns over sharing video footage with law enforcement and unauthorized access to private home cameras. Amazon reached a $5.8 million settlement with the FTC in 2023 over allegations of misleading claims about its privacy and security practices.
Siminoff’s return marks an exciting development for the company, as he brings his passion for innovation and customer satisfaction back to the table.
