Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins are suing lead singer Perry Farrell over a backstage fight that led to the cancellation of their reunion tour. The incident occurred in September at a show in Boston, which ultimately caused the band to disband.
The lawsuit alleges that Farrell was frequently intoxicated on tour and during performances, causing problems for his bandmates. It claims that Farrell’s repeated attack on Navarro, who was still recovering from COVID-19, was especially hurtful because he knew Navarro’s physical limitations.
According to the lawsuit, Farrell “abruptly and unilaterally ended all plans for a Jane’s Addiction revival” and left his bandmates with an unfulfilled tour and record deal. The band had released two new songs, “Imminent Redemption” and “True Love,” in June 2024, but had planned to finish eight more tracks.
Farrell’s attorney, Miles M. Cooley, responded by saying the lawsuit is a baseless attempt to control the narrative and present his clients as victims. He claimed that Jane’s Addiction members have been trying to smear Farrell’s reputation and are now “scrambling to get ahead of the truth” in an effort to save face.
The dispute highlights the challenges facing the band’s reunion, which was meant to be a comeback for their classic lineup since 1990.
