Jane’s Addiction members Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins have filed a $10 million lawsuit against singer Perry Farrell over an infamous onstage altercation that forced the cancellation of their reunion tour. The band is seeking damages for emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract.
The suit claims Farrell assaulted Navarro during a performance in Boston last September, leading to the immediate end of the show and the cancellation of the remaining 33 dates on the tour. According to the lawsuit, Farrell’s actions had a “terminal inflection point” for the band, causing them to break up.
The plaintiffs allege that Farrell initially apologized but then shifted blame onto himself and his spouse Etty Lau Farrell. The lawsuit also claims that the band’s efforts to move forward with a new album and tour were hindered by Farrell’s conduct.
In response, Perry Farrell’s team released a statement calling the lawsuit “baseless” and stating that it was filed in an attempt to control the narrative. However, the plaintiffs maintain that history will remember Jane’s Addiction as suffering a swift and painful death due to Farrell’s unprovoked anger.
