A man has been sentenced to six years in prison for urinating into office workers’ water bottles, resulting in the victims contracting herpes simplex 1 and hepatitis A. Lucio Catarino Diaz was found guilty of an aggravated assault with deadly weapon charge after pleading guilty.
The incident occurred at a doctor’s office along Houston’s East Freeway, where one employee noticed her water bottle had a funny taste and smell after it was dispensed from a shared dispenser. She then proceeded to bring her own water bottles to work to avoid the issue.
However, another colleague also reported similar experiences with her personal water bottle being contaminated with urine. An investigation revealed that Diaz, who worked as a janitor at the office, had been repeatedly urinating into the dispensers and contaminating the water bottles of multiple employees.
Security footage showed Diaz uncap the water bottle, unzip his pants, and place his private part inside the bottle on multiple occasions. He then recapped the bottle and placed it back on the desk.
Diaz tested positive for herpes simplex 1 virus and hepatitis A during questioning, which he allegedly admitted to having done with malicious intent. The victims had lab work done and were found to have contracted the incurable disease.
As part of his plea deal, Diaz will not be required to register as a sex offender, but he will serve three years before being eligible for parole.
