Jannik Sinner Fined 3 Months for Banned Substance Contamination

Tennis star Jannik Sinner has accepted a three-month ban from the sport after testing positive for banned substance Clostebol twice in March 2024. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced on Saturday that Sinner will be suspended from February 9 to May 4, allowing him to compete at the French Open.

Sinner had previously claimed that the contamination was accidental, resulting from his physiotherapist applying an over-the-counter spray to their own skin. However, WADA accepted responsibility for the team’s negligence, stating that Sinner did not intend to cheat and was not aware of the contaminated substance.

The three-time grand slam winner accepted the ban, saying he takes full responsibility for his team and recognizes the importance of adhering to strict rules in tennis. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed that WADA’s outcome supports their original findings, which stated that the breach was unintentional.
