Japan Braces for Heat Wave in August

Japan is experiencing its hottest July on record, with officials warning of severe heat in the northern and western regions through August. The average monthly temperature in July was 2.89 degrees Celsius higher than the 1991-2020 average. A record-breaking temperature of 41.2 Celsius (106.2 Fahrenheit) was recorded on July 30 in Hyogo. This is the third record-breaking July Japan has seen, with the last two years also experiencing above-average temperatures. The rainy season ended earlier than usual, and experts predict more rain and cloudy days initially but then sunny days later in August.

The weather agency is urging people to take precautions against heatstroke, particularly in areas with less precipitation. Experts warn that human-driven climate change may cause cherry blossoms to bloom earlier or not at all due to the altered winter patterns. With a likely record-breaking average temperature for June to August, Japan is bracing for more heat in August.
