Japanese Aquarium Creatively Solves Sunfish Struggle**

**

The Kaikyokan Aquarium in Shimonoseki temporarily closed for renovations following reports that a sunfish was struggling after closure. Initially, staff suspected digestive issues or parasitic infections but later hypothesized the fish might be lonely without its usual visitors. To alleviate the fish’s loneliness, they creatively placed cardboard cutouts of visitors and staff uniforms near the tank. The fish appeared to benefit from this arrangement, showing signs of improved health. The aquarium noted that the sunfish started swimming energetically and waving its fins in front of the tank following the intervention. The facility plans to reopen in June 2025 after six months of renovations, continuing its commitment to engaging visitors and fostering a positive environment for all creatures within its care.
