Organisers have taken measures to address trackside grass fires that disrupted the second practice session at the Suzuka racetrack in Japan, ensuring no repeat over the rest of the weekend. Four red flags were issued due to small grass fires and a car crash, with efforts focused on extinguishing the flames quickly.
The FIA has implemented preemptive measures to prevent future incidents, including cutting short grass and removing loose debris from affected areas. The track will be dampened before tomorrow’s sessions, with response teams stationed around the track.
This comes after last year’s Chinese GP in Shanghai was also interrupted by a small grass fire during practice, highlighting the need for increased safety protocols at high-speed racing events.
