Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Ishiba has condemned Assassin’s Creed: Shadows of the Tomb, criticising its unauthorised use of a real-life Shinto shrine’s name and cultural disrespect.
Ishiba stated that respecting another country’s culture is natural and expected. He emphasized the government’s intolerance for acts disrespecting Japan’s culture.
The controversy began when a promotional video showed players in the game destroying an actual shrine, Itatehyozu Shrine, located in Himeji city.
