Nintendo and Sony, two of Japan’s biggest gaming giants, are likely to increase the prices of their consoles due to rising US tariffs. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, consumers may face price hikes of up to 30% for new consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2 or PlayStation 5.
The tariffs, which affect China where both consoles are assembled, will significantly impact prices in the US market. The duty imposed on Chinese shipments is as high as 125%, although Nintendo has a production presence in Vietnam that won’t be subject to this tariff until next year. As a result, the new consoles may cost close to $590, depending on the base-case scenario.
