NFL center Jason Kelce made history as the host of his own late-night talk show, “They Call It Late Night”, at Union Transfer in Philadelphia. The debut episode, which aired on Friday evening, was filled with laughter and excitement as Kelce shared stories about his childhood love for Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel.
Kelce explained that he wanted to create a show that celebrated the NFL landscape, incorporating clips from NFL Films and featuring past players and announcers. The show’s title was an ode to the first episode of NFL Films, which made it a unique addition to late-night TV.
The panel portion of the show featured new guests for each episode, including Charles Barkley and Lil Dicky. Kelce expressed his comfort with having these guests on the show, as he had known them from previous podcasts and collaborations.
The show’s live band, Snacktime, performed during breaks and at different times throughout the episode, adding to the energetic atmosphere. Kelce also paid tribute to fellow late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and his own Philadelphia roots, aiming to make the show feel more national while still honoring its Philly roots.
Kelce brought a 14-year-old version of himself and featured a “Chug Machine” segment with four fans competing for Super Bowl tickets. The first episode drew strong laughs and reactions from the crowd, making it a great success in real time.
