Rapper Jay-Z has spoken out following the dismissal of a lawsuit against him and Sean “Diddy” Combs over alleged rape allegations. In a declaration filed in Los Angeles, Jay-Z claims that attorney Tony Buzbee intentionally caused emotional distress by filing the lawsuit on the eve of his daughter Blue Ivy’s movie premiere.
Jay-Z alleges that he lost $20 million in contracts due to the false allegations and has been experiencing “mental anguish” since the lawsuit was filed. He accuses Buzbee of placing him in a difficult position, threatening to ruin his reputation unless he settled or faced financial ruin.
The lawsuit, which alleged that Jay-Z and Combs raped a 13-year-old girl at an afterparty in 2000, was voluntarily dismissed on Friday by Buzbee and his co-attorney. The suit cannot be refiled.
Jay-Z issued a statement calling the dismissal “a victory” and expressing gratitude that the allegations have been cleared. He also acknowledged the trauma caused to his wife and children, stating that he would not wish this experience on anyone.
Combs still faces over 40 civil lawsuits related to the same incident. His trial begins in May 2025, while Jay-Z has been cleared of all charges.
