Rapper Jay-Z is pushing back against rape allegations made by an anonymous woman, Jane Doe, who claims he assaulted her alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.
In a new interview with NBC News, the Jane Doe admitted to inconsistencies in her original story, including key corroborating witnesses. Despite these errors, she maintained that her account is credible.
Jay-Z’s lawyers claim that the inconsistencies prove their client’s innocence and say Buzbee filed a false complaint for financial gain. They have asked the court to dismiss the case and are seeking additional discipline against attorney Tony Buzbee.
The allegations mark the first time Jay-Z has faced accusations of sexual assault in connection with Combs, who is awaiting trial on federal charges.
Jane Doe’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, maintains that his client remains adamant about her story, despite the inconsistencies. He said he is still vetting her claims and collecting corroborating data.
The case has drawn criticism from both sides, with lawyers for Combs calling it a “shameful money grab.”
