Rapper Jay-Z is suing the lawyer behind a now-abandoned lawsuit that accused him of raping a 13-year-old girl at a 2000 MTV Video Music Awards party. The lawsuit, filed by Tony Buzbee, claimed Jay-Z and fellow rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs attacked the girl. However, in court documents, Jay-Z says the allegations were intended to cause him maximum distress.
Jay-Z claims social media comments responding to Buzbee’s statements have caused him harm, with users calling him a “satanist,” a “trafficker,” and threatening violence against him and his wife BeyoncĂ©. He describes the allegations as “frivolous, fictitious and appalling.” The lawsuit was filed in December, the same day as BeyoncĂ©’s daughter Blue Ivy’s London premiere.
Jay-Z has now voluntarily dismissed the case, calling it a victory. However, fellow rapper Diddy still faces over three dozen cases outstanding, including six months in prison on criminal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
