Rapper Jay-Z is suing the lawyer behind a now-abandoned lawsuit that accused him of raping a 13-year-old girl at a 2000 MTV Video Music Awards party. The lawsuit, filed by Tony Buzbee, claimed Jay-Z and fellow rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs attacked the girl. However, in court documents, Jay-Z says the allegations were intended to cause him maximum distress.
Jay-Z claims social media comments responding to Buzbee’s statements have caused him harm, with users calling him a “satanist,” a “trafficker,” and threatening violence against him and his wife Beyoncé. He describes the allegations as “frivolous, fictitious and appalling.” The lawsuit was filed in December, the same day as Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy’s London premiere.
Jay-Z has now voluntarily dismissed the case, calling it a victory. However, fellow rapper Diddy still faces over three dozen cases outstanding, including six months in prison on criminal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
