Louisville women’s basketball suffered a blow when guards Jayda Curry and Merissah Russell were forced to sit out their ACC Tournament-opening victory against Clemson due to unspecified injuries.
The 14th-seeded Cardinals secured a narrow win, 70-68 in overtime, thanks in part to the efforts of Imari Berry, who made her first collegiate start. Curry leads the team with 13.4 points and 3.1 assists per game, while Russell averages 4.6 points and 2.3 rebounds.
Coach Jeff Walz declined to comment on the nature of the injuries but expressed optimism about the team’s chances. The Cardinals will look to bounce back in the quarterfinals against third-seeded Duke on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
