Jayson Tatum Embodies Greatness as Celtics Take Down Bucks

Jayson Tatum’s growth is undeniable, and it might be time to consider him a top contender for MVP. The Celtics’ playmaker is tightening up his game, with improved handle and passing skills that give him the ability to create space on the court.

Tatum’s size, skill, and vision make him a nightmare to defend. He can skip passes off the dribble, finding small openings in the defense from all angles. This season, he’s developed into a legitimate playmaking weapon, capable of leading his team to victory even when opponents send two players his way.

In the fourth quarter against the Bucks, Tatum delivered an MVP-worthy performance, scoring 14 points and delivering three assists while making every shot. He outsmarted Giannis on post-ups, provided help defense, and created gaps for his teammates to exploit.

However, Damian Lillard remains a favorite target, with the Celtics working to pick him up early on offense and defense. But the Bucks’ coaching staff is resourceful, employing creative actions to crack defensive shells. The use of the Spain pick-and-roll has proven effective in opening up opportunities for the Celtic’s big men.

Lillard also takes advantage of soft switching by Queta, who struggles in drop coverage. To counter this, the Celtics might need alternative schemes that keep Queta close to the rim. Meanwhile, the Bucks try various defensive strategies, including the late double, which cancels gap creation while disrupting flow.

The Celtics adapt these tactics with brilliant after-timeout plays, exploiting the Bucks’ reluctance to switch. Jaylen Brown’s pressure on Lillard in one sequence was particularly effective in leaving him visibly worn out.

In a standout performance, Al Horford remains one of the best defenders in the NBA, limiting Giannis to just six free throws over three games. Even when the Celtics fail to hit threes, as they did in the second quarter, they adapt by drawing free throws and using rim pressure to generate offense.

Jrue Holiday’s 20/5/6 game was a complete performance, with elite defense and excellent screen-setting. Khris Middleton, however, had an uneven start against his former team, finishing with just 11 points after cooling off mid-game.
