JBL has announced two new versions of its popular Bluetooth speakers, the Flip 7 and the Charge 6. The updated models boast improved battery life, sound quality, and rugged designs.
The JBL Flip 7 features a more durable design with an upgraded tweeter and an additional two hours of playtime, now reaching up to 14 hours on a single charge. In contrast, the JBL Charge 6 boasts an enhanced woofer and four extra hours of battery life, with a maximum playback time of up to 24 hours.
Both speakers come equipped with JBL’s AI Sound Boost technology, which enhances volume without introducing distortion. This feature analyzes audio in real-time using an AI algorithm to optimize acoustic output levels, leading to more powerful sound.
The Flip 7 is available for preorder at $149.95 and will ship starting April 4th. The Charge 6 is priced at $199.95 and also set to ship on the same date.
While the new features are notable improvements over their predecessors, some may find that JBL’s Playtime Boost feature – which extends battery life by up to 16 hours – comes with a trade-off in sound quality due to reduced bass frequencies. The Charge 6 offers similar functionality but at the cost of lower-end frequencies.
Both speakers support high-resolution lossless audio when connected via USB-C, and the Flip 7 features an upgraded IP68 rating for increased durability. The Charge 6 includes a removable carrying strap with two attachment options.
