Former US Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office is dropping its pursuit of six Democratic lawmakers who were accused of treason by President Donald Trump. The move comes after a federal grand jury rejected Pirro’s efforts to obtain an indictment against the lawmakers, including Senator Elissa Slotkin and Representative Maggie Goodlander.
The Democrats had filmed a video urging military and intelligence officials to refuse illegal orders from the Trump administration, which Trump called “sedition” in a post on Truth Social. However, federal prosecution is now off the table for these lawmakers.
One of the lawmakers, Senator Mark Kelly, had previously been targeted by the government with a lawsuit over his alleged “seditious statements”. A federal judge blocked the lawsuit earlier this month, but Kelly has vowed to appeal.
This development comes after several of Pirro’s cases have fallen apart in court. The former judge and Fox News host faces criticism for her poor record in court.
