Filmmaker Jeff Baena has died by suicide at the age of 47, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records. The cause of death was confirmed after a review of his medical records, which listed suicide as the reason for his passing.
Baena, who was married to actress Aubrey Plaza, had directed several films including “The Little Hours”, “Horse Girl” and “Spin Me Round”. His most recent film, released in 2022, starred Plaza and Alison Brie.
Baena and Plaza had been married since 2020 and were known for their quirky and offbeat relationship. The actress, who is also a star of the TV show “Parks and Recreation”, had previously spoken about how she and Baena met over a game of Balderdash and got married during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Tributes have been pouring in from fellow actors and directors, including Alison Brie, Molly Shannon, and Adam Pally. The Golden Globes also honored Baena’s memory by acknowledging his contributions to filmmaking.
